What you can do
If you are looking for a place to live, you can browse available housing options or apply for short-term financial help. If you own a home, you can apply for grants to upgrade your heating, insulation, or windows. You can also speak at a council meeting or join a public workshop to give feedback on how we build and manage housing in Wrenford.
How the strategy works
Our housing strategy is built on four pillars. First, we update zoning rules to allow more homes in existing neighbourhoods, like secondary suites and garden suites. Second, we work with non-profit groups and property owners to keep rental units safe and affordable. Third, we fund shelters and transition housing to prevent homelessness. Fourth, we maintain our existing housing stock so older homes stay safe and energy-efficient.
The City manages the Housing Land Bank under Housing Land Bank By-law 2026-061. This by-law lets the City hold vacant lots and buildings for affordable housing providers. The City also tracks vacancy rates and runs the Rental Housing Rehabilitation Program. If you own a rental property, you may qualify for a $1,200.00 one-time incentive and low-interest loans to bring the building up to code. Homeowners can access the Home Energy Upgrade Grant for up to $3,000.00 to install heat pumps or replace windows.
