City issues building permit values report for Q3 2024

The City of Wrenford has released its third-quarter 2024 building permit values report, showing steady growth in residential and commercial development across the city.

From July 1 to September 30, 2024, the City approved 142 building permits with an estimated total value of $38.5 million. This represents a 15 per cent increase in value compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date totals for 2024 now stand at $89.2 million across 387 permits.

"The steady pace of permit activity tells us that our residents and businesses are investing in Wrenford," said Wendy Szabo, Chief Building Official. "We are seeing a healthy mix of housing, community facilities, and commercial upgrades that will support our growing population."

Notable permits approved during the quarter include:

  • A $4.8 million permit for a new four-storey affordable housing complex on Railside Road, adding 48 units to the neighbourhood.
  • A $1.2 million interior renovation permit for a commercial office building at 200 Tamsin Street.
  • A $650,000 permit for a new live/work space and small retail unit in the Fallsview neighbourhood.
  • A $320,000 permit for a community daycare expansion at 50 Benchlands Drive.

The report highlights a continued shift toward higher-density housing and small-scale commercial upgrades in established neighbourhoods. Residential permits accounted for $22.1 million of the quarter's total, while commercial and industrial permits brought in $11.4 million. Public service and institutional projects made up the remaining $5.0 million.

Building permit fees help the City recover the costs of reviewing applications, conducting inspections, and ensuring all new construction meets the Ontario Building Code.
