City crews repair potholes on major arterial roads

As August kicks in, Roads & Winter Maintenance crews are busy repairing potholes on major arterial roads across the city. Since the asphalt plants opened earlier this year, crews have been hard at work patching damaged roads on a priority basis. Thanks to public reporting, over 600 potholes have been documented, and crews have already placed more than 450 tonnes of asphalt on streets like Benchlands Drive, Corvid Way, and Eastfield Road.

"We have six crews working daily to fix these roads," says James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "Your reports help us target the worst spots first and keep our streets safe for drivers, cyclists, and transit riders alike."

The work is part of the city's annual Spring Road Repair Programme, which continues through the warmer months. Crews focus on permanent patching, crack sealing, and drainage fixes to extend the life of the road surface. With the freeze-up approaching, they are also clearing catch basins and inspecting drainage systems to prepare for winter snow and ice. Because the weather has been dry, crews can lay fresh asphalt quickly and safely. Once the patching is done, painting crews will return to refresh lane markings and crosswalks.

How you can help

Reporting a pothole generates a work order for City crews to address the damaged road as quickly as possible. You can report a pothole by completing a service request form online or by calling 519-555-0100. When you report a pothole, please include the street name, direction of travel, and nearest cross street so crews can find it fast.

While crews are working, please keep a safe distance and follow flagger instructions. Temporary speed reductions may be in place near active work zones to protect workers and drivers.
