City announces winter road safety campaign ahead of Ice Days

With winter conditions still active and the Wrenford Ice Days approaching, the City of Wrenford is launching a winter road and infrastructure safety campaign. The initiative runs through the end of February and focuses on helping residents stay safe on the roads and protect their homes and water systems from the cold.

Freeze-thaw cycles have already created hazards on several streets. Roads & Winter Maintenance crews are out early each morning to clear snow and salt main roads, and they are patching potholes as soon as weather permits. Drivers should allow extra travel time, slow down for road conditions, and keep their emergency kits stocked with blankets, food, water, booster cables, and a shovel.

At the same time, the Water & Wastewater team is reminding property owners to prepare their water services for the cold. The overnight on-street parking ban is in effect from December 1 to March 31 between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. to keep snow routes clear for plows. If you need a temporary exemption for loading or unloading, you can apply online at Apply for a snow route parking ban exemption or visit the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall.

Protecting your water lines and meters is just as important. Make sure your water service valve is accessible, insulate exposed pipes, and keep your thermostat set to at least 15 °C to prevent internal freezing. If you suspect a frozen line or meter, turn off the main valve and call Report a water main break or the after-hours utilities line at 519-555-0111.

"Before you set out, make sure you are prepared and check for the latest road and weather conditions," says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "Our crews are working around the clock to keep streets passable, and we need residents to help by keeping driveways clear and respecting the parking ban."
