City announces 2025 budget includes green infrastructure funding

The City of Wrenford announced on October 25, 2024, that the draft 2025 municipal budget includes dedicated funding for green infrastructure projects. This new investment builds on the results of the annual budget planning survey, where residents highlighted a desire for stable service levels and stronger environmental stewardship.

Green infrastructure focuses on natural systems that manage stormwater, reduce flooding, and make our neighbourhoods more pleasant to live in. The 2025 budget allocates funds for several key initiatives, including the Corvid Creek Ravine Pathway Extension connecting Riverside Flats Park to Benchlands Lookout Park, and the new north shore loop at Ambrel Lake Park.

"Investing in green infrastructure is about more than just trees and trails," says City Manager Robert Eng. "It is about building a city that can handle heavy rainfall, keep our parks accessible, and give residents more safe places to walk and bike. This budget puts those priorities into action."

The funding also supports the city's commitment to the Active Transportation Network Strategy, expanding multi-use paths and upgrading existing trails. Residents can expect more tree planting, enhanced stormwater catchments, and continued maintenance of the Tamsin River Trail System.

These projects were shaped by feedback from the budget planning survey and consultations with the Parks & Trails team. The city will continue to seek input as the budget moves through council deliberations this fall.
