City addresses pothole repairs on major arterial roads

As the winter season winds down and the ground begins to thaw, City crews are heading out to fill potholes on Wrenford's major arterial roads. Workers from the Roads & Winter Maintenance division will start this week on high-traffic routes like Benchlands Drive, Northgate Boulevard, and Eastfield Road.

Potholes form when water seeps into cracks in the pavement, freezes, expands, and then breaks apart the road surface. With daytime temperatures now rising above freezing, drivers will likely notice more bumps and dips. Crews are working through the day to patch these areas before they grow larger or cause damage to vehicles.

Motorists should expect brief delays and slow-moving traffic as crews operate in active lanes. When you see road work ahead, please reduce your speed, stay alert, and give workers plenty of space. If you spot a pothole that is not yet being repaired, you can report it by visiting our Report a pothole page or by dialing 311 from inside city limits.

"We are prioritizing the main routes that carry the most traffic, but we will be out in every neighbourhood as soon as the ground thaws enough to hold a patch," said James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "Spring is a busy time for us, and we appreciate your patience while we keep our roadways safe."

Once the arterial roads are fully addressed, crews will move into residential streets. The City's Spring Road Repair Program also includes permanent patching, crack sealing, and drainage fixes across the city. Street sweeping will follow in April and May to clear debris from the spring thaw.
