Building permit fees adjusted to support housing development

The City of Wrenford is adjusting building permit fees to help developers build more homes across the city. Starting March 1, 2024, the new rates will lower the upfront cost for multi-unit housing projects, making it easier to bring new neighbourhoods and rental buildings online.

The changes apply directly to the rates listed on the Building Permits page. Residential projects with four or more units will see a 25 per cent reduction in the base fee. Single-detached and semi-detached homes will see a small 10 per cent cut. Commercial and industrial construction rates will stay the same. The City made these changes to keep pace with provincial housing goals and to support local builders.

"We want to remove as many barriers as possible for developers who are building the homes our community needs," said City Manager Robert Eng. "Lowering these fees is a direct way to keep construction moving and help more families find a place to live in Wrenford."

The fee adjustment works alongside other tools from Economic Development to boost the housing supply. Developers can also apply for the Wrenford Pre-Development Housing Grant to cover feasibility and engineering costs before breaking ground.

Builders and homeowners can apply for permits online or in person at City Hall. If you have questions about the new rates or need help with a specific project, the planning team is ready to assist. Visit Building Permits for the full fee schedule, application forms, and step-by-step instructions.
