Affordable housing programs

Find out how Wrenford is expanding housing options, supporting renters, and partnering with non-profits to keep our community affordable.

What you can do

Housing is a basic need, and Wrenford is taking clear steps to keep homes affordable for everyone. Whether you are looking for a rent-geared-to-income unit, need help finding a landlord, or want to explore building a missing-middle home, this page explains how the City supports you. Start by exploring our main Housing page for a full overview.

Rent-geared-to-income housing

Rent-geared-to-income housing means your monthly rent is set at thirty per cent of your after-tax household income. The City works with housing providers across Wrenford to manage waitlists and match applicants with available units. To apply, you must first be eligible for Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program, or meet the City’s low-income threshold. You can start your application by visiting the Service Wrenford counter in City Hall or calling the Community Services line. Wait times vary by neighbourhood, but staff will keep you updated on your status.

Housing Accelerator Fund commitments

The federal Housing Accelerator Fund supports municipalities that remove barriers to building more homes faster. Wrenford has committed to a set of actions that will expand our housing supply and make it easier to build. These actions include updating the Zoning By-law to allow up to four units on single lots in established areas, permitting mid-rise buildings along transit corridors, and creating a pilot program to convert vacant office spaces into residential units. The City will also streamline the approval process for housing-related discretionary uses and align our infrastructure plans with new housing sites. Learn more about our planning direction on the Official Plan page.

Support for non-profits and developers

Non-profit housing providers and community groups can apply for the Wrenford Pre-Development Housing Grant. This grant covers up to thirty-three thousand dollars for feasibility studies, environmental assessments, and engineering work. The City is also launching a municipal land disposal process that prioritizes community land trusts and non-profit developers who commit to long-term affordability. If you represent a housing provider, contact the Economic Development team to learn how to register for upcoming grant rounds.

Renter and landlord resources

All rental properties in Wrenford must meet the Property Standards By-law. Landlords are required to register their rental units and maintain safe, healthy buildings. The City offers a free rental licensing guide and hosts annual workshops on landlord responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act. If you are a tenant facing a maintenance issue or an illegal eviction, you can file a report through By-law Enforcement or contact the Rental Housing Support program for mediation. The Community Standards By-law also covers nuisance and noise complaints in multi-unit buildings.
