Benchlands Curling Club park adjacent area gets new lighting

The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce the completion of a new lighting upgrade at the Benchlands Curling Club and the adjacent area on Benchlands Drive. The project, finished in August 2024, adds bright, energy-efficient LED fixtures to the parking lot, pathways, and building exterior.

These new lights extend the usability of the space well into the evening hours. Curlers, visitors, and neighbours can now navigate the area safely after dark. The upgrade also includes updated controls that adjust brightness based on evening activity, which helps reduce light spill into nearby homes while keeping the space secure.

“Improving the lighting around our community facilities makes a big difference for safety and accessibility,” says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. “Residents can now enjoy the space longer into the evening, and the new fixtures will save on energy costs for years to come.”

The Benchlands Curling Club itself is a City-owned, club-operated facility. The City funded this exterior lighting work as part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and welcoming public spaces. The work was carried out by a local electrical contractor and finished ahead of the fall curling season.

If you notice a light that is not working or see damage to the new fixtures, please let us know. The Parks & Trails team is ready to send a crew out to fix it quickly. You can report maintenance issues online or by calling Wrenford 311 inside the city limits.
