Benchlands Curling Club hosts annual winter tournament

The Benchlands Curling Club is hosting its annual winter tournament from February 2 to 4 at its facility on Benchlands Drive. The event brings together more than 120 teams from across the region for a weekend of competition, community meals, and youth coaching sessions.

With the tournament drawing visitors to the Benchlands neighbourhood, city maintenance crews are prioritizing the area for snow clearing and parking lot maintenance. Crews will treat the club's access roads and the adjacent Benchlands Drive corridor ahead of expected snowfall to keep traffic flowing smoothly. Residents and visitors should expect increased vehicle traffic in the area over the weekend and are advised to allow extra travel time.

For those planning to drive, please review the winter maintenance schedule to understand plow routes and parking restrictions. During active snow events, on-street parking may be temporarily suspended on main corridors to allow salt trucks and plows to work safely. If you notice a pothole or a missed clearing zone near the club, you can report it through the city's online service request portal.

"Community events like this tournament bring people together and support local athletics, which is why we keep the roads and parking areas accessible and safe during the busy winter months," said Fiona Gallagher, general manager of community services. "We ask drivers to be patient with crews and pedestrians to watch for salt trucks and plow equipment."

The Benchlands Curling Club is a city-owned facility operated by its volunteer board. The club offers seasonal memberships, youth development programmes, and open ice for recreational players.
