Ambrel Lake Park splash pad closes for winter maintenance

The splash pad at Ambrel Lake Park will close for winter maintenance on Monday, November 25, 2024, following the end of the outdoor recreation season. City infrastructure crews will begin draining the water system, removing pumps and valves, and covering the play area to protect the equipment from frost damage. The splash pad is scheduled to reopen in late June 2025, pending weather conditions and final inspections.

During the closure, the rest of Ambrel Lake Park remains open for winter use. Visitors can still enjoy the boardwalk for morning walks, and the adjacent playground stays accessible for families. The picnic shelters are available for booking for winter events, provided they comply with the city's public spaces safety standards. Residents should keep in mind that any permanent modifications to the splash pad enclosure or surrounding landscaping will require a development application. For guidance on submitting plans for parkside improvements, see the Development Applications section.

"Our maintenance teams work hard to keep these facilities safe and functional," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "This seasonal shutdown allows us to inspect the pavement, clear drainage lines, and store sensitive equipment indoors so everything is ready for summer."

While the splash pad is closed, the city continues its regular winter maintenance routine across the park. Snow will be cleared from the main pathways and the boardwalk as needed, following the city's prioritized route map. Residents are reminded to keep dogs on a leash in the park during winter months and to clean up after pets to protect the natural shoreline and the boardwalk structure.

The splash pad operates from late June through Labour Day each year. For the full operating schedule, program updates, and information on other seasonal facilities, visit the Parks & Trails page or call the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre at 519-555-0124.
