Ambrel Lake Park inclusive playground expansion breaks ground

On April 10, 2024, the City of Wrenford broke ground on the Ambrel Lake Park inclusive playground expansion. This project makes sure children of all abilities can play together in the Ambrel Lake neighbourhood.

The expansion adds a new sensory garden, a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round, and rubberized play surfaces. The Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority and the Wrenford Public Library Board helped secure provincial and federal funds to pay for the work.

"Playgrounds are more than just a place to run and climb. They are where friendships start and communities come together," says City Manager Robert Eng. "This expansion makes sure every child in Wrenford has a safe, welcoming space to play."

During the public engagement phase in early 2024, you and your neighbours shared ideas. You asked for shaded seating, interactive water features, and quiet zones for children who need a break from loud noises. The final design includes all of these features alongside standard climbing structures and swings.

The City follows the Inclusive Playground Design Guidelines. These rules focus on physical access, sensory experiences, and social connection. Construction will finish by late summer 2024, just in time for the outdoor pool season.

You can view the final park layout and share ideas for future park upgrades on the Inclusive playgrounds page. To learn more about accessible parks and recreation, visit Accessibility at the City.
