Winter service vehicles undergo seasonal maintenance check

Starting today, the City's Roads & Winter Maintenance crew is busy completing annual inspections and repairs on every plow, salt truck, and grader in the fleet. The maintenance checks are taking place at the Civic Operations Centre and city yards ahead of the winter season.

Crews are putting the vehicles through a full safety and performance review. Technicians check tires, brakes, hydraulics, salt spreaders, plow blades, and all warning lights. Making sure every machine runs smoothly means the Roads & Winter Maintenance team can respond quickly and safely when storms hit. The fleet is divided into six winter sectors so every neighbourhood gets cleared on time.

"Getting these vehicles ready early means we can hit the ground running the moment the first snowfall hits," said James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "We want to make sure our drivers have reliable equipment so they can keep your streets safe and clear all season long."

Once the snow melts, the Roads & Winter Maintenance crew will shift its focus to spring road repairs and catch basin maintenance. Residents can help by keeping catch basins clear of leaves and ice, and by following the Snow route parking bans. Clear parking lanes give plow and salt trucks the space they need to work efficiently and keep everyone safe on the road.
