The City of Wrenford has released the draft 2024 operating and capital budget for public review. We are asking you to look over the plans and share your feedback before Council votes on the final numbers in February.
The draft budget asks for $142.5 million in operating funding and $48.2 million for capital projects. Most of this money comes from property taxes, user fees for services like transit and recreation, and provincial grants for specific projects. The budget keeps your taxes stable while making important upgrades to the city's foundations.
Your feedback will help us set the final priorities. The draft plan focuses on four main areas:
- Keeping roads and sidewalks safe by resurfacing 45 kilometres of streets and repairing damaged curbs.
- Renewing the transit fleet with six new electric buses and upgrading the Downtown Transit Terminal.
- Upgrading waste management services, including new recycling trucks and a new sorting line at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility.
- Supporting public safety with new equipment for the Wrenford Police Service and Fire Rescue Services, plus repairs to Fire Station 3.
"We know that running a city of 92,400 residents requires careful planning," says City Manager Robert Eng. "This draft budget balances the need for immediate repairs with long-term investments in transit, waste, and community spaces. We want to make sure it works for every neighbourhood."
You can review the full draft budget documents on the Budget page. The City will hold three public drop-in sessions in January at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, the Northgate Aquatic Centre, and the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre. You can also fill out the online Community Budget Survey or attend a council meeting to speak.
The final budget will be discussed at the council meetings on January 22 and February 5.
