At City Hall on December 11, 2023, Wrenford City Council appointed three residents and one councillor to the Affordable Housing Strategy Committee. The committee will help the city meet its housing goals and prepare for upcoming changes in zoning and policy.
The committee's job is to review the city's housing needs, track funding from the provincial Housing Accelerator Fund, and recommend changes to zoning and land-use policies. One of the new members was chosen specifically because they have lived experience with housing insecurity, as required by the committee's charter. The City Manager's designate will provide administrative support for the group.
Joining Councilor Marcus Lindqvist on the committee are Hannah Kwiatkowski, Ethan Moreau, and Malik Johnson. Each member brings a different background to the work, from community advocacy to local business experience.
"Having residents with different perspectives at the table is the best way to build a housing strategy that actually works for everyone," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "We are committed to making sure every Wrenford resident has access to safe, stable, and affordable housing."
The committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Citizen members serve a two-year term and may be reappointed once. The city accepts applications year-round, with reviews happening quarterly. You can find all the rules, meeting times, and application forms on the Affordable Housing Strategy Committee page.
