City launches public consultation on draft official plan update

Starting today, the City of Wrenford is launching a public consultation on the draft update to the Official Plan at City Hall and online. Residents can review the document and submit feedback from November 15 to December 31, 2023, to help shape how our neighbourhoods grow, how we protect natural areas, and how we improve transit access over the next twenty years.

The current Official Plan was adopted in 2018, and this draft revision brings it in line with recent provincial growth targets. The update introduces clearer directions for building more homes near the Tamsin River Trail and the downtown core, while keeping the Corvid Creek Ravine and Ambrel Lake shorelines protected from heavy development. It also lays out rules for higher density buildings around the Centennial Bridge and Northgate Boulevard, and sets aside land for community centres in the growing Wildrye neighbourhood.

To take part, you can review the full draft document and maps on the Official Plan page. You will also find a feedback form and a map tool where you can pin your comments directly to the affected areas. The City is holding three evening drop-in sessions at City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, on November 28 and December 5, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Drop-ins are open to anyone who wants to chat with planning staff face to face.

"This update ensures Wrenford keeps growing in a way that works for everyone," said Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning. "We want to hear from families, young professionals, and business owners so the final plan truly reflects what our community needs for the next generation."

Please submit your feedback through the online portal or by mail to the Planning and Development department before the December 31 deadline. All comments will be summarized and presented to Council in early 2024 for final review. The draft update also outlines how future development applications will be processed under the new zoning rules. To track the progress of this update or submit a formal development application, visit the Development Applications page.
