City issues building permit values report for Q3 2023

The City of Wrenford has released its third-quarter 2023 building permit values report, highlighting a strong period for local construction and development. Published today by the Planning and Development department, the report tracks the total value of building permits issued between July 1 and September 30, 2023.

During the quarter, the City issued permits totaling $412.5 million in value. Residential construction made up the majority of this figure, accounting for $285.2 million across new single-detached homes, duplexes, and secondary suites. The remaining $127.3 million went toward commercial, industrial, and institutional projects, including renovations at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and the new mixed-use development on Eastfield Road.

"Building permits are a leading indicator for our local economy," said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "When we see consistent permit values, it means jobs are being created, supply chains are active, and families are finding new places to live. This report shows that Wrenford's development pipeline remains healthy heading into the new year."

The report breaks down permit activity by ward and neighbourhood. Benchlands and Eastfield saw the highest concentration of residential permits, while the downtown core and Railside accounted for most commercial growth. The City also issued several permits for green building upgrades and energy-efficient retrofits under the provincial energy efficiency programs.

Residents and developers can review the full quarterly breakdown on the City's website. The report includes a map of all permitted sites, a list of approved building permit numbers, and a summary of the development cost charges collected during the period. These charges fund new roads, water mains, and parkland in growing areas.

If you are planning a renovation or a new build, the City offers pre-development consultations to help you navigate the permitting process.
