On November 28, 2023, Council approved the updated 2024 development cost charge (DCC) rates. The new rates will help fund essential infrastructure like roads, water mains, and parks needed for Wrenford's growth under the Development Charges Act, 1997.
Development cost charges are one-time fees paid by developers when they build new homes, commercial buildings, or industrial sites. These charges cover the cost of building the capital infrastructure that new growth requires. They do not affect existing residents or properties.
"We set these rates after a thorough review of our infrastructure needs and current construction costs," said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "The 2024 rates ensure we can keep building the roads, pipes, and parks our growing neighbourhoods need without stretching our existing budget." The rates were calculated following the City's biennial Development Charge Review, which updates the fees every two years to match inflation and new municipal standards.
Developers can find the full 2024 rate tables and detailed breakdowns on the Development cost charges page. The rates apply to all new building permits issued on or after January 1, 2024. If you are planning a new project, you can start your application through our Development Applications portal. Our planning staff are available to answer questions about how the charges apply to your specific site.
