What counts as a housing code violation
Properties in Wrenford must meet minimum standards for health and safety. If a property is poorly maintained, unsafe, or a nuisance to neighbours, it may violate one of our by-laws. Common issues include:
- Accumulation of garbage, debris, or yard waste that is visible from the street
- Overgrown grass and weeds exceeding 30 centimetres
- Abandoned or dilapidated vehicles stored outside
- Structural hazards, such as broken stairs, exposed wiring, or missing railings
- Illegal or unregistered rental suites
- Excessive noise, pests, or odours affecting neighbours
How to report a violation
To report a housing code violation, call 311 from inside city limits or 519-555-0100 from outside. You can also submit a complaint online through the Service Wrenford portal or email [email protected].
When you report, please have the following ready:
- The exact address of the property
- A clear description of the issue
- Your name and contact information (anonymous complaints are not accepted)
Your information is kept confidential. Complaints are not forwarded to the property owner or the public.
How we handle complaints
By-law Enforcement reviews every report based on priority and available resources. Complaints involving immediate health and safety risks, such as structural dangers or severe pest infestations, are investigated first. Other complaints are processed in the order they are received.
Our By-law Inspectors will visit the property to assess the situation. If a violation is confirmed, we will contact the property owner or tenant to request voluntary compliance. In most cases, issues are resolved through a formal compliance notice. If the problem is not fixed within the given timeframe, the City may issue a fine under the relevant by-law or pursue further legal action.
