About the grant
The Wrenford Housing Development Grant helps developers and non-profit groups build more affordable homes across the city. This grant works alongside provincial and federal funding programs to make housing projects financially viable.
Funding amounts
- Non-profit organisations: up to $12,000 per affordable unit, with a maximum grant of $250,000 per project.
- Private developers: up to $9,000 per affordable unit, with a maximum grant of $180,000 per project.
- Extra funding: Projects that include missing middle housing, supportive housing, or green building features can receive an additional $40,000.
Who can apply
You can apply if you are a registered non-profit housing provider or a private developer building residential projects in Wrenford. Your project must meet the City's Official Plan and zoning requirements. You must also secure matching funding from a provincial or federal housing program before we review your application.
How to apply
Follow these steps to submit your application:
- Book a pre-application meeting. Schedule a free 30-minute consultation with a housing planner at Wrenford City Hall to review your site and zoning.
- Prepare your documents. Gather your proof of matching funding, site plan, construction timeline, and proof of registration (business number or non-profit charter).
- Submit online. Upload your application package through the Wrenford ePermits portal under the Housing Development Grant section.
- Wait for a decision. Our team reviews applications on a rolling basis. You will receive a written decision within four weeks of the closing date for each intake.
Key deadlines
Applications are accepted year-round, but funding is released in three annual intakes:
- Spring intake: applications open March 1, close May 31
- Summer intake: applications open July 1, close August 31
- Winter intake: applications open November 1, close December 31
Grant rules and conditions
If your project is approved, you must follow these rules to receive the funds:

- Affordability covenant: The units must remain at or below the city's maximum affordable rent or sale price for at least 20 years.
- Reporting: You must submit a quarterly progress report and a final project report within 60 days of completion.
- Inspections: City building inspectors and housing officers may visit the site at any stage to verify compliance.
