Environmental sustainability grants

Learn how to apply for funding to support projects that reduce waste, lower emissions, or protect the Tamsin River and local waterways.

The City of Wrenford is working to lower greenhouse gas emissions, cut waste, and protect the Tamsin River. You can apply for an environmental sustainability grant to fund projects that make a measurable difference in your neighbourhood or business.

What we fund

Grants are awarded to projects that directly reduce environmental impact. We look for ideas that are practical, community-led, and able to finish within one year. Typical projects include:

  • Tree planting and native habitat restoration
  • Community composting or food-waste diversion programs
  • Energy audits and retrofits for community buildings
  • River and creek cleanups, including erosion control
  • Workshops on water conservation, gardening, or low-carbon living

Who can apply

You can apply if you are a Wrenford resident, a registered neighbourhood association, a non-profit organisation, or a local business. Groups must provide a project coordinator who will handle the budget and final report.

How much funding is available

Project type Maximum grant amount
Small neighbourhood or personal projects up to $5,000
Community-wide or non-profit initiatives up to $15,000
Business-led or multi-organisation projects up to $30,000

Application deadline and timeline

The next application window opens on January 15, 2027, and closes at 4:30 p.m. on March 31, 2027. We review complete applications on a rolling basis until the funds are gone. Successful applicants will be notified by May 15, 2027. All projects must be completed and reported by October 31, 2027.

How to apply

Submit your application through the Wrenford eGrants portal. You will need to provide a brief project description, a budget, a timeline, and a plan for how you will measure success. If you need help, drop a note to [email protected] or call Wrenford 311. Paper forms are available at the Service Wrenford counter in City Hall.

Rules and reporting

Grant recipients must acknowledge City funding on all promotional materials and event signage. You must submit a short completion report and final receipts within thirty days of finishing the project. The City reserves the right to adjust funding amounts or pause the program if demand exceeds the available budget.

If your project focuses on climate adaptation or neighbourhood beautification, you may also qualify for the Community Resilience Fund or the Neighbourhood Beautification Grant. Both programs run on separate cycles and have different eligibility rules.
