About this licence
If you run a child care programme in your home for up to six children under 13, you need a home based child care business licence from the City of Wrenford. This licence helps keep children safe and makes sure every home meets basic health and safety standards. The rules are set out in Business Licensing By-law 2021-033.
Do you need a licence?
You need a municipal licence if you:
- Care for up to six children under 13 at the same time
- Provide care for less than 24 hours at a time
- Live in the home where the care is provided
You do not need this City licence if you are a nanny or babysitter working directly for a family, or if you look after more than six children. Looking after more than six children requires a provincial licence and a commercial facility.
What are the rules?
Once licensed, you must follow these standards:
- Staff limits: You can have a maximum of one employee at any time who does not live in your home.
- Outdoor space: Outdoor play spaces must be screened from the street for privacy and safety.
- Training: You must complete annual mandatory staff training in child development, behaviour support, and infection control.
- Police checks: You must provide a current police security clearance from the Wrenford Police Service.
