Child care licensing application

Learn how to apply for a home-based child care business licence in Wrenford, including fees, timelines, and location approval steps.

Do you need a licence?

If you plan to offer home-based child care in Wrenford for up to six children under the age of 13 at any one time, you must obtain a municipal business licence. This licence ensures your home meets basic health and safety standards while caring for young children. If you plan to care for more than six children, you will need a provincial licence instead.

Nannies and babysitters who work directly for families in the family's home are exempt. Informal care provided by family, friends, or neighbours is also exempt.

Before you apply

Check that your home location is allowed for child care. We review every application against the Zoning rules and safety standards. You must live in the home where the business operates. You can have up to one employee who does not live at the home. You must also screen your outdoor play area so it is not visible from the street.

How to apply

  1. Check your location: Make sure the property is zoned for home-based child care. If you are unsure, contact the Planning & Development office at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1, or email [email protected].
  2. Gather your documents: You will need a government-issued photo ID, a completed application form, and a current police security clearance from the Wrenford Police Service Headquarters, 75 Albert Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1B3. You can get the clearance through their online system or by visiting in person.
  3. Submit your application: Send your form, ID, and police clearance to [email protected], or drop them off at the Service Wrenford counter at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1.
  4. Pay the fee: Once your application is approved, we will send you an invoice. Payment can be made online, by mail, or in person.
