Adapted and inclusive recreation
The City of Wrenford makes sure every resident can take part in recreation. We offer adapted programs that change equipment, content or group sizes so everyone can join in. You can browse all current programs on our recreation programs page.
If you need help finding the right program, we can build a plan around your interests and needs. Our staff will work with you to adjust activities, provide equipment or arrange transportation support where possible.
Inclusion Support Service
Some people need extra help to register or take part in activities. Our Inclusion Support Service is free and designed just for you. We do not charge for any support we provide.
Individualized Inclusion Support Plans
We start by getting to know you. You will complete a simple “Getting to Know You” form at a major facility or online. Based on your answers, we create an Individualized Inclusion Support Plan. This plan outlines exactly what you need to feel comfortable and safe in a program.
Leisure Companions
If your plan says you need one-on-one support, we can provide a Leisure Companion. A Leisure Companion stays with you during your chosen activity. They help you follow along, use equipment or talk with other participants. Companions are hired staff who are trained in inclusion and safety. We try our best to match a companion with your schedule, but we cannot guarantee availability for every time slot.
Attendant Admission Program
If you bring a support person or attendant to help you participate, that person enters for free. This applies to all drop-in programs and registered classes. Just let the front desk staff know when you check in. We also honour recognized provincial access cards for free attendant entry.
Adaptive equipment and facility features
Our facilities are built to welcome everyone. You will find accessible parking, ramp access, automatic doors and lowered counters at reception. Universal washrooms and change rooms are available at all locations.
At the pools and arenas
Northgate Aquatic Centre and Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre both offer water wheelchairs and automated chair lifts so you can get into the pools safely. The outdoor rink at Riverside Flats Park and the ice pads at Westbrook Community Arena and Eastfield Twin Arenas are fully sledge hockey accessible, with clear bench boards and removable flooring.
At the recreation centres
Check out a sensory backpack from the front desk if you need a quieter environment or extra sensory tools. You can also borrow beach access mats and adaptive flotation devices at Ambrel Lake Park and Riverside Flats Park during the summer season. The fitness centres feature inclusive equipment that allows direct wheelchair access, and one lane of the walking track at Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre is reserved for walkers and wheelchairs.
Registration assistance
You can register online through our online registration portal, or you can visit the service counter at Wrenford City Hall. If you need help with the online form or want to register by phone, just ask. Tell us what program you are interested in at least three weeks before the start date so we have time to arrange support.
We keep all your personal information private. We only use it to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable experience.
