What is a service connection permit?
A service connection permit covers the installation of water and sewer pipes from the municipal system to your property line, as well as the installation of water meters. You need this permit if you are constructing a new building or adding a new structure that requires a water and sewer hookup.
Who can apply?
Only contractors with a valid City of Wrenford business licence can apply for a service connection permit. If you do not have a business licence, please visit the Business Licences page for information on how to register.
What are the fees?
Permit fees are set by Council and reviewed annually. Current fees can be found in the Water and sewer rates and fees schedule. The standard permit fee is $375.00 for a water service connection and $425.00 for a sewer lateral connection. Additional charges may apply for inspections outside of regular business hours.
How to apply
You can submit your application in one of the following ways:
- Online through the Service Wrenford portal.
- In person at the Planning & Development counter on the third floor of Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
- By email to [email protected].
Make sure to include a site plan showing the proposed connection points, the property line, and the location of the new water meter.
Site inspections
You will need a final inspection before you cover or backfill the connections. Our inspectors will check that the pipes are installed correctly and that the water meter is accessible. If any deficiencies are found, you must fix them before the permit is finalized. Re-inspection fees may apply if the work does not pass the first time.
