Water meter upgrade schedule

Starting in spring 2027, the City of Wrenford is upgrading every residential water meter to a smart meter. This project is part of our Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) transition. The new meters send your water usage data to us every hour instead of once a month. This helps you catch leaks faster and lets us bill you more accurately. The upgrade costs nothing extra. The price is already covered in your current water rates.

Ward upgrade schedule

We will work through each ward one at a time. When your ward is next, you will get a letter in the mail with an appointment booking code. Please book your slot within two weeks of receiving the letter.

Ward Upgrade period
Ward 1 (Downtown) April 2027 to August 2027
Ward 2 (Benchlands) September 2027 to January 2028
Ward 3 (Northgate) February 2028 to June 2028
Ward 4 (Ambrel Lake) July 2028 to November 2028
Ward 5 (Eastfield) December 2028 to April 2029
Ward 6 (Meadowlark) May 2029 to September 2029

What happens during the upgrade

An authorized contractor, Corvid Meter Solutions, will visit your home. A technician will replace the meter inside your property, usually in the basement. They will also attach a small transmitter box to the outside wall near the main water shut-off valve. The technician will run a thin wire from the new meter to the transmitter.

During the swap, your water will be turned off for about 10 to 15 minutes. The whole visit takes roughly 45 minutes. You must be at home to let the technician in. Someone 18 years or older needs to stay for the entire appointment.

How to prepare

  • Find your main water shut-off valve. It is usually where the water pipe enters your home.
  • Clear the area around the valve. Move boxes, toys, or furniture so the technician has room to work.
  • Test the shut-off valve now. If it is stiff or stuck, tell us when you book so we can plan extra time.
  • Keep pets in a separate room during the visit.

Booking your appointment

You will receive a letter with a special booking code. Use the link in the letter or call Corvid Meter Solutions at 519-555-0140 to pick a time. We offer slots Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you miss the two-week booking window, call the number on your letter to extend it. If you lose your letter, call 519-555-0140 for a new code.

Commercial and industrial properties

If you run a business or own a large property, your meter upgrade works differently. Large meters (3 inch or bigger) get a site survey first. Small business meters (1.5 to 2 inch) get scheduled for a direct swap. You will receive a separate letter with instructions. Contact our water team at Water Billing office if you have questions.
