What is a residential parking permit?

A residential parking permit lets you park on the street near your home in a restricted zone. These zones are usually set up where parking gets very busy, like near downtown, hospitals, or schools. The street is public space, so without a permit, anyone could park there. A permit gives you a spot without having to move your car every two hours.

Who can get a permit?

You can apply if you live or work in a neighbourhood with a parking restriction. The City sets up these zones when a block gets so full that residents struggle to find a spot. If a parking study shows that at least 80 per cent of the block supports a restriction, the City will install signs and open applications.

Residents, full-time students, and people with accessible permits can all apply. Each vehicle you own needs its own permit. You must prove you live or work at the address on the application.

Permit fees

The City charges a small fee to cover the cost of running the programme. This keeps the service available for those who need it most.

  • Residential permit: $75.00 per year
  • Visitor permit: $25.00 per year (up to two per home)
  • Accessible permit: $25.00 per year
  • Student permit: $50.00 per year

How to apply

You can apply online through the City's service portal or visit us in person. Bring a valid driver's licence, proof of vehicle registration, and proof of residency or employment. If you are applying for a student permit, bring your student registration form or ID card.

If you apply in person, go to the Service Wrenford counter at Wrenford City Hall. The counter is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Using your permit

Wrenford uses a digital parking permit system. You will receive a printable PDF that you must display on your dashboard or windshield. Physical decals are no longer mailed. Keep your permit current and update the City if you move or change vehicles. Permits are not transferable.

Visitor permits allow your guests to park near your home for up to 24 hours. They only work on the block where your address is listed.

Enforcement

Enforcement officers check permits during regular patrols. If a vehicle is parked in a restricted zone without a valid permit, it may be ticketed under the Traffic and Parking By-law. Make sure your permit matches the address on your vehicle registration.
