How we spend your tax dollars
The City of Wrenford follows the Procurement Policy (Corporate Policy 2026-007). This policy makes sure every dollar is spent fairly, transparently, and with value for money. Whether we are buying office supplies, hiring a landscaping company, or constructing a new park, we follow clear steps.
Buying thresholds and processes
The way we buy something depends on the total value. You can find the full policy on the Policies page page, but here is a quick guide:
- Under $5,000: We use direct purchasing or request three informal quotes.
- $5,000 to $50,000: We issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ). We compare prices and qualifications from at least three vendors.
- $50,000 to $250,000: We issue a formal Request for Proposal (RFP). Vendors submit detailed plans, and a selection committee reviews them.
- Over $250,000: All major contracts go through a public tender process. Notices are posted on Bids & Tenders and meet provincial requirements.
Registering as a supplier
If your business sells goods or provides services, you can register with the City to receive notifications for relevant opportunities. Registration is free and takes about ten minutes online.
How to register:
- Visit the Bids & Tenders portal.
- Create a vendor profile with your business number and contact details.
- Select the categories that match your services (e.g., construction, information technology, maintenance).
Registered suppliers will receive email alerts when new opportunities open. We also post our quarterly procurement spend reports on the procurement reports page so you can see how the City is investing in the local economy.
Fairness and conflict of interest
All staff involved in purchasing must declare any personal or financial interest in a vendor. If a conflict exists, the staff member steps away from the decision. This rule protects the integrity of every purchase and ensures all local businesses have an equal chance to compete.
