Where to ride
Wrenford has a growing network of trails and streets for cyclists. The 64-kilometre Parks & Trails connects Riverside Flats Park, Ambrel Lake Park, and Benchlands Lookout Park. These paved, multi-use paths are great for commuting and recreation. Remember to share the trail and watch for pedestrians.
On the road, the City maintains paved shoulders and marked lanes on major streets like Benchlands Drive, Corvid Way, and Northgate Boulevard. The Roads & Winter Maintenance team clears snow from these routes as soon as possible after a storm. During the winter parking ban (December 1 to March 31), cyclists can use cleared sidewalks where safe, but must yield to pedestrians.
Riding on the road
Cyclists are considered drivers under the Highway Traffic Act. You must follow the same traffic rules as cars. This means stopping at stop signs, signalling turns, and riding with traffic, not against it.
- Wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet. It is required for everyone under 18 and strongly recommended for all riders.
- Use lights and reflectors. A white front light and a red rear reflector or light are required from sunset to sunrise, or whenever visibility is poor.
- Ride in the right-hand lane. Pass vehicles on the left. Do not weave through parked cars.
- Check the Traffic bylaws and regulations for local rules on helmets, brakes, and bells.
The Wrenford Police Service Headquarters enforces traffic laws for all road users, including cyclists. If you see unsafe driving or cycling, report it to 911 in an emergency, or use Contact for non-urgent concerns.
Riding on trails
The City's trail system is shared by walkers, runners, and cyclists. Please keep to the right and pass slowly. Use your bell to let others know you are approaching. Dogs must be on a leash in all parks and along the river trails. Check the Parks and recreation strategy for seasonal closures or maintenance updates.
Getting to work on two wheels
Want to bike to work or school? Wrenford Transit supports cycling. All fixed-route buses have front-mounted bike racks that hold up to three bicycles. You can board with your bike at any stop, but please allow a little extra time for loading and unloading. Check the Transit page for route maps and schedules.
Need a place to lock up your bike? Secure bike racks are available at the Downtown Transit Terminal, Wrenford City Hall, and most recreation centres. Please do not lock bikes to benches, railings, or trees.
Building a better network
Wrenford is working to make it easier and safer to cycle for everyday trips. Our Climate adaptation strategy includes goals to expand protected cycling lanes, improve street lighting for night riders, and plant more trees along major corridors to reduce the urban heat island effect. We track cycling activity each spring with the Wrenford Cycling Count to plan future projects. Your feedback helps us decide where to build next. Visit Community engagement policy to learn how to share your ideas.
