We started the meeting at 3:00 p.m. in Committee Room 2, Wrenford City Hall. Members present were Councillor Grace Whitlock (Ward 4) and six resident members. The Chair (a resident member) led the session. Staff in attendance was Katrina Doucet, the City's Accessibility Coordinator.

Delegations

Reports and decisions

City Hall accessibility audit

The committee reviewed the annual audit of City Hall's accessibility features. The report confirmed that the Water Street entrance ramp meets current standards, but the washrooms on the second floor need minor adjustments. The committee voted to recommend an immediate upgrade to the second-floor washroom doors. Carried.

Wrenford 311 app updates

Staff presented a draft of the updated Wrenford 311 app accessibility checklist. The committee suggested adding larger text options and voice-to-text support for users with visual impairments. The coordinator agreed to include these features in the next software update. Carried.

Parks and trails tactile paving

The committee discussed a proposal from the Parks and Trails division to install tactile paving at all major transit stops along the Tamsin River Trail. Members recommended prioritizing the stops near the Downtown Transit Terminal and Ambrel Lake Park. Carried.

Public comment period

Three residents attended to share feedback on the accessibility of the upcoming Harvest on Mercer festival. The committee promised to forward their suggestions directly to the Events Coordinator for review.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee does not pass by-laws. It makes recommendations to City Council, which holds the authority to pass legislation under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005. No by-laws were passed at this meeting.
