Attendance
Councillor Grace Whitlock (Ward 4), representing Council, and the six resident members of the Accessibility Advisory Committee were present. The Chair, a resident member, called the meeting to order. The City's Accessibility Coordinator, Katrina Doucet, attended as staff.
Delegations
A resident from the Larch Heights neighbourhood presented a brief on improving sidewalk clearance in residential areas during winter. They emphasized the need for consistent plowing schedules to ensure safe passage for mobility device users.
Reports and decisions
The committee reviewed the draft updates to the annual accessibility report. Members discussed feedback received from the public on the current accessibility strategy, particularly regarding transit stops and park washrooms. The committee recommended that the City prioritize installing tactile paving at high-traffic intersections on Mercer and Tamsin Streets. They also approved the draft budget for the upcoming year's accessibility consultation workshops. A motion was made to forward these recommendations to Council for review. The motion was carried unanimously.
The committee examined proposals for the upcoming winter season, focusing on how to improve snow removal protocols for crosswalks near schools and community hubs. Staff provided an update on the installation of audible pedestrian signals at downtown intersections. The committee agreed that the current rollout meets the needs of the area and recommended expanding the program to the Benchlands and Northgate neighbourhoods in the next capital budget cycle.
Members also reviewed the draft of the new accessible parking signage for residential zones. They suggested adding clearer instructions on how residents can apply for permits through the Service Wrenford counter. The committee approved the revised draft and directed staff to circulate it for public comment before finalizing the by-law amendment. Members discussed the upcoming spring maintenance schedule for park washrooms, noting that several locations need upgraded handrails and automatic doors. Staff confirmed that bids have been received and that work will begin in April once the snow melts.

No by-laws were passed at this meeting. The committee's role is to review policies and make recommendations to Council, which holds the authority to pass by-laws.
