Delegations
A representative from the Wrenford Public Library Board spoke about improving branch access. A resident from the Kingfisher neighbourhood shared feedback on transit stops, asking for more bench seating and covered waiting areas along busy routes.
Reports and decisions
City Hall entrance upgrades
The committee reviewed the latest accessibility audit for City Hall. The audit showed that the main entrance on Mercer Street works well, but the Water Street entrance needs a wider ramp. The committee recommended hiring a consultant to design the upgrade so you have a safer path when you visit City Hall. Carried (7-0).
Transit improvements
Members discussed how to make Wrenford Access and the fixed routes easier to use. The committee recommended adding audio announcements at all stops on routes 1 through 14 by September. They also suggested placing tactile paving at the Downtown Transit Terminal. If you use Wrenford Access, these changes will make your trip easier. Carried (5-2).
Canada Day in the Park plans
Staff presented the draft layout for the July 1 celebration at Centennial Gardens. The committee approved the plan, which includes a clear path from the parking lot to the main stage and accessible washroom stations near the food court. Carried (7-0).
Draft Accessibility Strategy
The committee reviewed the first draft of the city's accessibility strategy. Members agreed that it covers transit, parks, and buildings well, but it needs more detail on digital services. The committee recommended opening a 30-day public comment period so you can share your thoughts. Carried (7-0).
By-laws
No by-laws were passed at this meeting. Committees make recommendations only; the full council passes by-laws.
Adjournment
The meeting ended at 4:15 p.m.
