Mayor's recognition awards

Learn how to nominate residents and groups for the annual Mayor's Recognition Awards in Wrenford.

About the awards

The Mayor's Recognition Awards honour residents and groups who make a real difference in Wrenford. Whether you volunteer your time, lead a community project, excel in the arts, or protect our natural spaces, you can be nominated. The awards bring pride to our city and highlight the people who help make Wrenford a great place to live. We present these awards at an annual ceremony in the Council Chambers to celebrate your hard work.

Award categories

We look for candidates who go above and beyond for our community. The following categories cover the main ways you can contribute to Wrenford:

  • Community Builder Award — Recognises individuals or groups who show leadership, creativity, and dedication to creating long-term benefits for our neighbourhoods. This could include starting a local initiative, improving a park, or helping new residents settle in.
  • Distinguished Voluntary Service — Honours volunteers who have made a significant impact, improved quality of life, or brought about positive change in Wrenford. We look for consistent effort over a number of years.
  • Fine & Performing Arts — Celebrates individuals and groups who have earned recognition for outstanding achievement in the arts, whether locally or beyond our borders. This includes music, theatre, visual arts, and cultural heritage.
  • Environmental Stewardship — Acknowledges those who protect and enhance Wrenford's natural environment, from river clean-ups to urban greening projects. We also look for efforts that encourage others to care for our land and water.
  • Youth Achievement — Recognizes young residents aged 13 to 24 who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their community, school, or local organizations. This award highlights the next generation of leaders.
  • Mayor's Special Award — The highest honour, presented by the Mayor for humanitarianism, exceptional achievement, or an act of heroism or bravery. This award is selected directly by the Mayor, not the committee.

How to nominate

Nominations are open now. You can nominate yourself or someone else. To submit a nomination, please complete the Nomination Form and return it by May 31. You can submit your form by email to [email protected] or drop a printed copy at the Service Wrenford counter in Room 101 of Wrenford City Hall.

How winners are chosen

All nominations are reviewed by the Mayor's Recognition Awards Committee. The committee looks for candidates who truly represent the spirit of Wrenford. While meeting every criterion is not required, the committee reserves the right to select no winner in a category if the nominations do not meet the standard. Nominators can submit candidates for multiple categories, but each individual or group can only receive one award per year. All decisions are final.

What makes a strong nomination?

When you write your nomination, focus on specific examples. Tell us what the person or group did, how they did it, and why it matters to Wrenford. If possible, include how their work has helped others or made a lasting change. Letters of support from neighbours, colleagues, or community partners are welcome and help the committee understand the full impact.
