Why we have this policy

To keep Wrenford's elected officials accountable, we follow clear rules about gifts, hospitality, and personal benefits. These rules make sure decisions are made for the public good, not for personal gain. They apply to the mayor and all six councillors, and they work alongside our Code of conduct for elected officials.

What councillors and the mayor can accept

You can accept gifts or hospitality if they are small, infrequent, and clearly related to your role. The limit for any single item is $100.00. This includes things like event tickets, meals with community groups, or small promotional items.

What councillors and the mayor cannot accept

Cash, cheques, gift cards, or anything worth more than $100.00 cannot be accepted. You also cannot accept anything that could be seen as a reward for a past decision or a bribe for a future one. If you are unsure about an item, ask the City Clerk's Office before accepting it.

How gifts and hospitality are reported

Every councillor and the mayor must keep a log of any gifts or hospitality received. These logs are reviewed by the City Clerk's Office and made public each quarter. You can view these disclosures below. All financial limits and reporting rules are set out in the annual Budget and supported by our Councillor salaries and expenses guidelines.
