Benefits for employees

A clear guide to the health, pension, and time-off benefits available to City of Wrenford staff.

Your benefit package

As a City employee, you receive a cost-shared benefit plan that works alongside your salary and pension. The plan covers you and your eligible dependents. Coverage details may change slightly depending on your union agreement and employment type.

Health and dental care

The City provides extended health and dental insurance through a provincial health insurer. This covers prescription drugs, vision care, and visits to paramedical practitioners like physiotherapists and chiropractors. You also have emergency travel insurance if you are away from home.

Spending accounts

Each year you receive credits to use for eligible expenses. You cannot carry unused credits over to the next year.

  • Health Spending Account (HSA): $750.00 for medical costs not covered by your main plan.
  • Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA): $750.00 for fitness, personal development, and wellness costs.

Pension and retirement

The City contributes to your Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) account. We match your contributions and add an extra one percent. You can also set up a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) through payroll deductions if you wish.

Life insurance

You are automatically covered for basic group life insurance equal to two times your annual salary. The City pays the premium for the first $25,000.00 of this coverage. You can also purchase optional additional life insurance for yourself, your spouse, or your dependents at a group rate.

Sick leave and vacation

Accumulated sick leave covers short-term and long-term illness. You earn vacation time based on your years of service:

  • Three weeks after one year
  • Four weeks after eight years
  • Five weeks after fifteen years
  • Six weeks after twenty-four years

Some positions also offer family leave and compressed work week options.
