Why you need a licence
Clothing donation bins help keep textiles out of landfills and support local charities. To operate a bin in Wrenford, you must hold a valid clothing donation bin business licence under Business Licensing By-law 2021-033. All licences expire on December 31 each year.
Where you can place bins
You can place donation bins in two types of locations:
- Private property: Bins are allowed on private property if the site meets safety standards and you have the property owner's written consent.
- City-owned land: Locations on municipal property will be managed through the Wrenford Donation Bin Program. New sites are added periodically. Contact us to join the waiting list.
What you must submit with your application
Before you apply, gather these documents:
- A written certification from a licensed professional engineer confirming the bin's design, construction, and operation are safe.
- Proof of general liability insurance with a minimum of $2,000,000 coverage.
- A signed release and indemnity agreement in favour of the City of Wrenford.
- A detailed site plan showing where each bin will sit, including addresses.
- A photograph or drawing and a written description of the bin.
You are responsible for keeping the bin area clean and servicing the bins on a regular schedule. Our By-law Enforcement officers may visit to check compliance.
