Heritage walking tours

Explore Wrenford on your own

You can explore the city's historic streets and buildings at your own pace. Our self-guided heritage walking tours take you through the downtown core, the Old Mill neighbourhood, and the Benchlands escarpment. Each tour is about two hours long and includes stops at historic sites, former industrial buildings, and community landmarks. Download the maps below. You can print them or save them on your phone.

Join a guided tour

If you prefer to walk with a group, join the monthly Heritage Walking Tours. These tours run from May to October and are led by the Heritage & Archives team. You will hear stories about the grist mill that started the city in 1834, the railway that arrived in 1859, and the people who built the neighbourhoods. Tours start at the Old Mill Museum & Archives and depart at 10:00 a.m. You can walk to the cenotaph at Centennial Gardens, follow the river to the Centennial Bridge, and finish at the Benchlands Lookout Park.

The tours are free. A suggested donation of $5.00 goes directly to the Old Mill Museum & Archives to help preserve historic records and artifacts. You do not need to book ahead, but you can email the archives team to ask about accessibility or group sizes.

Plan your walk

Wear comfortable shoes. Some routes include the boardwalk at Ambrel Lake Park and the gravel paths near the Tamsin River Trail System. Check the weather before you go. Wrenford gets cold in winter, and the winter parking ban runs from December 1 to March 31. If you are driving, use the parking lot at Centennial Gardens or the street parking along Market Square. Bring water and a snack. There are washrooms at Riverside Flats Park and the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre. Visit the Old Mill Museum & Archives before or after your walk. The reading room holds city records, and the restored 1834 grist mill shows how the settlement began.
