Youth mental health first aid
Life can be tough. Whether you are dealing with school stress, family issues, or relationship problems, it is normal to feel overwhelmed. Sometimes, your friends might be going through a hard time and do not know how to cope. This program teaches you the skills to step in and help.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course designed specifically for young people. It is not about becoming a therapist or a doctor. It is about learning how to recognize the signs that someone is struggling, how to talk to them without making things worse, and how to guide them toward professional help. You will learn practical tools to support your peers in crisis.
Who can join?
This training is open to all young people living in Wrenford. You do not need any prior experience in healthcare or counseling. If you care about your community and want to make a positive difference in the lives of your friends, this program is for you.
What you will learn
During the sessions, you will cover key topics such as:
- How to spot warning signs of mental health challenges.
- How to start a conversation with someone who is struggling.
- Strategies for calming a person who is in distress.
- Where to find professional resources in Southwestern Ontario.
- How to support someone after a crisis has passed.
