Book a community garden workshop

Do you want to grow your own food, improve your soil, or learn more about sustainable living? The City of Wrenford offers a variety of educational sessions designed to help residents of all experience levels succeed in their gardens. Whether you have a large backyard in Larch Heights or a small balcony in Downtown, these workshops provide practical skills and local knowledge.

What you will learn

Our sessions cover essential topics relevant to Southwestern Ontario’s climate and soil conditions. You can expect to learn about:

  • Seasonal planting schedules for vegetables and herbs
  • Composting methods for household waste
  • Integrated pest management using natural solutions
  • Water conservation techniques for drought periods
  • Starting a seedling garden from scratch

Who can attend

These workshops are open to all Wrenford residents. You do not need to be a member of a specific community garden association to participate. Families, students, and seniors are welcome. If you are new to gardening, an instructor will guide you through the basics. If you are an experienced grower, you can refine your techniques and share insights with others.

How to register

To secure your spot, you must use the official booking page. Spaces are limited for each session to ensure personalized attention. You will need to create an account or log in to your existing profile on the booking page before you can select a date and time. Please register as soon as possible, as sessions often fill up quickly, especially in the spring.

What you need to bring

For most indoor sessions, you only need a pen and notebook. However, for outdoor field sessions held at the community garden sites, please bring the following:

  • Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots
  • Gardening gloves
  • A reusable water bottle
  • Your personal hand tools, if you have them

Cost and accessibility

The workshops are free for Wrenford residents. No payment is required at the time of registration. If you require accessibility accommodations, such as wheelchair access to specific garden plots or large-print materials, please contact the Parks and Recreation Office directly. You can reach them at 519-555-0100 or by email at [email protected]. Please provide your notice at least three business days before the scheduled session.

Important dates and policies

Workshops are typically held on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. during the growing season. If you register and cannot attend, you must cancel your booking through the booking page at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to cancel may result in a temporary hold on future registrations. This policy helps us manage resources and offer spots to other residents on the waitlist.
