Riverside Flats Community Garden
Welcome to the 2019 season at the Riverside Flats Community Garden. Located in the heart of the Riverside Flats neighbourhood, this space offers a unique opportunity for residents to grow their own vegetables, herbs, and flowers. The City of Wrenford is pleased to provide these plots to support local gardening and community engagement.
Plot Allocation for 2019
Plot assignments for the 2019 growing season are determined by a lottery system held each spring. If you were a participant in the 2018 season and wish to retain your plot, you must submit a renewal request by March 15, 2019. New applicants must submit their applications by March 22, 2019. Late applications will not be considered for the 2019 season.
Each plot measures 10 feet by 10 feet. Plots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis within the lottery pool. You may not transfer your plot to another person or group without written permission from the Parks Department. If you do not use your plot for the entire season, the City reserves the right to reassign it to another applicant.
Rules and Regulations
All gardeners must abide by the City’s park bylaws and rules. Key regulations for the Riverside Flats garden include:
- Organic Practices Only: The use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers is strictly prohibited. Only organic, natural methods are permitted to protect local wildlife and soil health.
- Watering: Water access is provided via shared hoses at each end of the garden rows. Please ensure all hoses are coiled and stored properly after use. Watering is permitted between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
- Structures: No permanent structures, sheds, or greenhouses are allowed. Temporary trellises and stakes are permitted provided they do not damage the soil or other plots.
- Cleanliness: Plots must be kept free of weeds and debris. At the end of the season, all plant matter must be removed or composted in the designated area. Failure to clean up your plot may result in a fine and ineligibility for future seasons.
Fees and Payment
The fee for a 10x10 plot is $25.00 for the 2019 season. Payment must be made in full by April 1, 2019 to secure your spot. Payments can be made online or in person at City Hall. If you have questions about your plot or the application process, please contact the Parks Department at 519-555-0100 or email [email protected].
