Larch Heights Tree Bylaw
As a homeowner in Larch Heights, you are required to follow the City’s 2018 tree preservation bylaw. This rule protects mature trees on private property. The City values these trees for shade, beauty, and environmental health. You must not remove or damage protected trees without a permit.
A protected tree is any deciduous tree with a trunk diameter of 30 centimetres or more at breast height. Coniferous trees are also protected if they are over 5 metres tall. Before you cut down or prune any tree, you must apply for a tree removal permit. Do not start any work until you receive written approval.
To apply, visit the City website or call Wrenford 311 at 519-555-0115. You will need to provide a site plan and a reason for the removal. Common reasons include disease, deadwood, or construction needs. If your tree is healthy, the City may deny the permit. You can also [[Apply for a tree removal permit | apply online]] directly.
The application fee is $150.00. This fee is non-refundable. If your permit is approved, you have 90 days to complete the work. If you do not finish, you must reapply. Failure to follow the bylaw can result in fines up to $5,000.00. The City may also require you to plant replacement trees.
If you need help identifying a tree, contact the Parks Department. They can send an arborist to your home. This service is free for residents. You can also [[Learn about park natural areas | learn more about local tree species]] on our website.
Pruning is allowed for health and safety. Do not top your trees. This harms the tree and is not allowed. Use a certified arborist for major pruning. Keep branches at least 3 metres from power lines. Contact Hydro One for those issues.
Bylaw enforcement officers check Larch Heights regularly. They look for unpermitted cuts and damage. If you see a neighbour breaking the rules, report it to 311. The City will investigate. We ask for your cooperation in keeping Larch Heights green and beautiful.
