Why work areas need a fire safety plan

Every workplace in Wrenford must have a written fire safety plan. The plan makes sure that everyone in your building knows how to get out quickly and safely if a fire starts. It also tells staff what to do when the alarm sounds. A clear plan keeps your employees, customers, and visitors protected during an emergency. Without a plan, confusion can slow down an evacuation and put lives at risk.

What your plan must cover

Your fire safety plan needs to cover several key areas. Make sure you include the following details:

  • Clear evacuation routes and marked exits
  • Designated assembly areas outside the building
  • Instructions for checking fire alarms and extinguishers
  • Staff training schedules and drill records
  • Contact details for Wrenford Fire Rescue
  • Procedures for shutting down gas or electrical systems
  • Roles for floor wardens and safety monitors

How to submit your plan

You can upload your plan through the Service Wrenford portal. If you need help, email [email protected] or visit the fire prevention office at Fire Station 1 (Headquarters), 210 Water Street. Our staff can answer questions about formatting and required checklists. You can also drop off a printed copy at the front desk during business hours.

Fees and review dates

There is a standard fee of $200.00 to review a work area fire safety plan. You must submit an updated plan every two years, or whenever you make changes to your layout or operations. Late submissions may result in a fine under the Ontario Building Code. We encourage you to set a calendar reminder so your plan stays current. If your business changes ownership, the new owner must submit a fresh plan within thirty days.

Staff responsibilities

Managers must keep a copy of the plan at the main entrance. All employees must complete a fire safety orientation within their first week. We conduct random spot-checks to make sure drills are happening. If staff do not know the evacuation routes, we will ask you to fix the issue right away. Regular practice builds confidence and saves time when seconds count.
