What is a fire monitoring plan?
A fire monitoring plan covers the systems that watch over your building's fire safety equipment. This includes central station monitoring panels, remote alarm systems, and any digital interfaces that send signals to emergency services or third-party monitoring companies. If your building has equipment that automatically alerts the Wrenford Police Service, Tamsin Valley Public Health, or a private monitoring company when an alarm goes off, you need a plan that explains how it works.
Who needs a plan?
You must submit a fire monitoring plan if your property uses:
- Central station fire alarm monitoring panels
- Remote monitoring systems that contact emergency services or private companies
- Digital interfaces that control or display fire detection signals
- Any system that changes how fire alarms are reported or tracked
Multi-family dwellings, commercial buildings, and large institutions are most likely to need this plan. If you are unsure whether your system requires a plan, contact the Fire Prevention Office at Fire Station 1 (Headquarters).
How to submit your plan
We accept fire monitoring plans through the Fire Prevention online portal. You will need to fill out the Fire Control Systems Verification Form and attach your system diagrams and monitoring contracts. Make sure all digital interfaces are clearly labeled with their contact numbers and response protocols.
Once you upload your documents, our Fire Prevention Officer will review your submission. You can check the status of your application at any time through the portal dashboard. If we need more information, we will send you a secure message through the same system.
Fees and review timeline
The fee for an initial review of a fire monitoring system plan is $200.00. This covers the first time we evaluate your system setup and documentation. A $75.00 fee applies to annual updates or changes to your monitoring contract.
Our team aims to complete the initial review within 30 business days of receiving a complete application. You will receive a written notice confirming your plan is approved, or a list of items that need to be corrected before approval.
