Who needs a fire detection system plan?

If you own or manage a building in Wrenford, you likely need a fire detection system plan. This plan is required under the Ontario Building Code for multi-unit residential buildings, commercial properties, and any building three storeys or higher. The plan helps firefighters know exactly where your smoke detectors, heat sensors, and alarm panels are located.

What must be in your plan?

Your plan must show the location of every component in your fire detection system. Include a clear floor plan for every level that shows:

  • Smoke and heat detectors
  • Manual pull stations
  • Alarm control panels and annunciators
  • Exit signs and emergency lighting
  • Fire alarm testing and maintenance records

How to submit your plan

You can submit your plan online through the City's official portal. Upload your completed floor plans and fill out the digital submission form. You will receive a confirmation email within five business days.

A standard review period takes three business days. If your plan needs changes, an inspector will contact you with a list of corrections.

Fees and rules

An initial review fee of $175.00 applies when you first upload a fire detection system plan. This fee covers the first review cycle. If you need a re-inspection because your system was changed without notice, a re-inspection fee of $150.00 will apply.

Under Ontario law, fire detection systems must be tested every three months by a licensed technician. You must keep test records on site for at least three years. Regular testing keeps everyone safe and keeps you in compliance with the Building Code Act, 1992.
