Strategic planning

Learn how Wrenford sets long-term goals for growth, infrastructure, and community services, and how you can take part.

What is strategic planning?

Strategic planning helps us set long-term goals for the City. It looks at where we are today and maps out where we want to be in five, ten, or twenty years. These plans guide decisions on growth, infrastructure, parks, and services. They make sure we are building a strong, resilient Wrenford for everyone.

How strategic planning connects to the Official Plan

The Official Plan is our main guide for land use and growth. Strategic plans feed into it. When we finish a study on a specific topic, we update the Official Plan to match the new direction. The Planning Act, 2019 requires us to keep this guide current as community needs change. Council reviews and approves these updates through a formal process.

Key strategic plans and studies

We work on several major plans at any given time. Here is what is currently active or recently completed:

  • 2027–2030 Capital Improvement Plan: Our four-year roadmap for building and fixing roads, bridges, water systems, and recreation facilities. It lists the projects we can afford and how we will pay for them.
  • Transportation Master Plan: A city-wide review of how people and goods move through Wrenford. It covers roads, transit, cycling, and walking routes.
  • Climate Resilience and Adaptation Strategy: A framework for protecting the Tamsin River valley, managing stormwater, and reducing emissions across City operations.
  • Neighbourhood revitalization plans: Targeted upgrades for older communities like Old Mill and Riverside Flats, focusing on green spaces, street safety, and local commercial corridors.

How you can get involved

Strategic planning is not just for staff and councillors. Your voice shapes these long-term goals. You can take part by:

  • Attending public meetings and virtual workshops during the consultation periods.
  • Completing online surveys and leaving feedback on the Community engagement page.
  • Joining a community advisory committee for a specific study.
  • Sharing your ideas through Contact or by emailing the planning team.
