2019 Downtown streetscape construction

The City of Wrenford has completed the major streetscape reconstruction project in the Downtown area. This initiative, carried out throughout 2019, aimed to modernize the pedestrian experience and upgrade aging underground infrastructure. The work covered the primary commercial corridor, ensuring safer and more accessible pathways for residents and visitors alike.

All sidewalks within the Downtown boundary have been replaced with durable concrete, featuring tactile paving at intersections for improved accessibility. The original asphalt road surface was removed and replaced with new asphalt pavement, including fresh lane markings and crosswalks. Underground utilities, including water mains and sanitary sewers, were also upgraded during this period to reduce future maintenance issues.

If you are planning any private construction work in the Downtown area, you must adhere to the Engineering Standards. All contractors are required to submit Construction drawings review plans before breaking ground. You must also obtain a Street use permit for construction to occupy any portion of the right-of-way.

Tree protection was a key component of this project. While the Downtown streetscape work is complete, any future private developments must follow the guidelines in Protecting trees during construction. The City encourages the retention of mature trees wherever possible.

For information on managing waste from future projects, refer to the Construction and demolition waste policy. Noise from construction activities must comply with the Construction noise permit regulations. Please note that the Construction season schedule typically runs from April to October, though Downtown projects were prioritized for early completion.

Ensure your property meets the Property standards bylaw and that any new connections follow the Plumbing and gas for infill construction requirements. For general community expectations, see the Community standards bylaw.
