Apply for a development application
If you are planning to build, renovate, or divide land in the City of Wrenford, you must submit a formal application for site plan control or subdivision. This process ensures that your project aligns with our official plan, zoning by-laws, and infrastructure standards. Whether you are developing in Downtown, Riverside Flats, or the Industrial Park East, this step is mandatory before construction begins.
What you need to prepare
Before you begin, gather the required documentation. Incomplete applications delay the review process. You will need:
- A completed Site Plan Control or Subdivision Application Form. You can download this form from the City’s public resources or pick up a copy at the Planning Department office.
- A current survey of the property, drawn to scale and certified by a licensed Ontario Land Surveyor.
- Architectural drawings showing the proposed buildings, including elevations and floor plans.
- Landscaping plans, if applicable, detailing planting schedules and irrigation systems.
- Utility plans showing connections to City water, sewer, and stormwater systems.
- The required application fee. Fees vary based on the size and complexity of the project. Check the current fee schedule for exact amounts.
How to submit your application
You have three options for submitting your application. Choose the method that works best for you.
1. In person
Visit the Planning Department office at City Hall. Our staff are available to accept your documents and answer basic questions about the submission process. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring your completed form, all supporting documents, and a cheque or credit card for the fee. If you have questions before you visit, call Wrenford 311 at 519-555-0111 or the main line at 519-555-0100.
2. By mail
Send your complete application package to the Planning Department, City of Wrenford, 100 Main Street South, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1. Include a cheque made out to the "City of Wrenford" for the application fee. Do not send cash. Mail-in applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Allow extra time for postal delivery.
3. By email
You may submit digital copies of your application form and drawings via email to [email protected]. Please note that you must still provide the original signed application form and the certified survey in hard copy. Email your digital files to the address above, then bring the hard copies to the office or mail them. Your application is not considered received until the hard copies arrive.
Next steps
Once your application is received, a planner will review it for completeness. If additional information is needed, you will be contacted. If the application is complete, it will be circulated to internal departments and external agencies for comment. You may be required to attend a public meeting or a committee of the whole hearing. Check the City’s public meeting calendar for dates. The Planning Department will notify you of the outcome in writing. If approved, you will receive a Site Plan Agreement or Subdivision Agreement to sign before proceeding.
For specific questions about your project’s requirements, contact the Planning Department directly at 519-555-0120 or email [email protected]. Do not start construction until you have received written approval.
