Water main flushing is starting today, March 23, in the south end of Wrenford. Crews from the Water & Wastewater department will be working through Ambrel Lake, Southview, Orchard Park, Ashgrove, and Eastfield through the end of May. This routine process clears sediment from the pipes and keeps your water fresh and clear.
During the work, you might notice brown or cloudy water coming from your taps. This is normal and happens when the crews dislodge built-up minerals and dirt. If your water changes colour, run the cold water tap in your bathtub or sink for five to ten minutes until it runs clear. Do not use hot water during this time, as the sediment can get into your water heater. You can also check the Water main flushing schedule and info page for the exact day your street is scheduled.
The crews will be working Monday through Friday, starting at 8:00 a.m. and finishing by 4:00 p.m. You will not be asked to leave your home. However, if your water pressure drops or your supply is cut off briefly, a crew will be right nearby to fix it. You may also see crews marking driveways with white paint to note any valve issues; this is just a quick check and does not require action from you.
"If you have questions about the flushing schedule or notice a problem that lasts longer than a few hours, please call us or report it online," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "We want to keep your water safe and your taps running smoothly all season."
