Wrenford Water crews will begin targeted water main flushing in the east end on Monday, January 5. The operation covers the Ambrel Lake, Southview, and Orchard Park neighbourhoods and is designed to improve water pressure and remove accumulated sediment from the distribution system.
Crews will flush fire hydrants in the area over the following two weeks. You may notice cloudy or brown water in your taps while the work is happening. This is normal and harmless. If your water looks discoloured, run the cold water tap in your bathtub or a utility sink for five to ten minutes until it runs completely clear. Do not run hot water taps during discolouration, as sediment can enter your home’s water heater.
Please stay on the lookout for the flushing route map on the Water main flushing schedule and info page. We recommend signing up for our text alert programme so you know exactly when crews will be on your street. While crews are working, please keep pets inside and ask children to stay away from the hydrants and standing water.
"Winter flushing helps us maintain consistent water quality and pressure before the spring growth season," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "We appreciate residents' patience while we work through the east end."
If you experience a sudden loss of pressure that lasts more than a few hours, or if you see water running in the street, it could be a main break rather than routine flushing. In that case, please use the Report a water main break tool to let us know right away.
