Wrenford water main flushing begins February 16 in the south end

Wrenford water crews will begin flushing the water main system in the south end neighbourhoods starting today, February 16. The work will cover Ambrel Lake, Southview, Orchard Park, Ashgrove, Eastfield, and Industrial Park East over the next few weeks. You can find more information on the Water & Wastewater page.

Flushing is a routine maintenance task that keeps our drinking water safe and our pipes running smoothly. During a flush, crews open a nearby fire hydrant to let water flow through the system at a higher speed. This clears out natural sediment, improves water pressure, and checks that the hydrants will work when you need them most.

You may notice your water looks cloudy or has a brownish tint while crews are working nearby. This is just the sediment being cleared from the pipes. It is safe, but it can stain laundry. We recommend running the cold water in your bathtub or a bucket for five to ten minutes until it runs clear. Please avoid doing laundry during the flushing hours in your area.

If you see a crew or an open hydrant, please give them plenty of room to work. The water flowing out is safe for the environment and will quickly return to the system.

"Flushing is a normal part of keeping our drinking water safe and clean," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "We appreciate your patience as we work through the south end schedule this week."
